昨日紹介した以外にもまだツタを持っている。

There are more than what I introduced yesterday.

マメヅタ。シダのようには見えないが、シダなのだ。細い葉は胞子葉だ。よく野生の物を見かけるのだが、私の経験では増やすのは簡単ではない。

Lemmaphyllum microphyllum Presl. It does not look like a fern, but it is. the narrow leaves are microsporophylls. I frequently see them wild. But in my experiences it is not easy to propagate.

モミジヒトツバ。これは着生とされているが、私は地植えにしてある。結構これも好きなようで、小さな草むらを作っている。
Pyrrosia polydactylia. Even though this is one of epiphytic plants. But, I planted this on the ground, and it looks liking the environment to form a small bush.

シダも集めている。どうやら原始的な植物が好きらしい。
I am collecting ferns, too. I seem to like primitive plants.

アオネカズラ。この緑色の太い根っこが魅力的。これはゆっくりしか育たないのに、夏には葉を落とす傾向がある。今は葉が戻ってきた所。
Polypodium nipponicum. The green thick roots are appealing. This is a slow grower, and tends to lose leaves in summer. Now, leaves are coming back.

ヒトツバ。硬い、濃緑の葉が中々渋い。葉が育つにつれ色が濃くなってくる。
Pyrrosia lingua. I look cool with hard dark-green leaves. Green gets darker as each leaf grows.

コウモリラン。一番奇妙な形だ。これは育てて数年以上になるが、本体から垂れ下がる胞子葉が着いたのは始めてだ。
Stag-horn fern, Platycerium wandae? This is the eeriest. I've been keeping this more than several years, and this is the first time it had sporophyll that is hanging from the body.

イワオモダカ。どんどん増える。何度も株を真っ二つにして親戚や友人にあげたが、数年で元の鉢一杯に育つ。
Pyrrosia hastata. Fast grower. I divide the plants into halves and gave the half to my relatives and friends several times, but in few years it filled the pot again.

このシダは日本では百年以上も愛好されている。夏にシダを風鈴と一緒に吊って涼をとるのだ。
This is a fern that has been very common in Japan for hundreds of years. People hang small ones with wind chimes to feel cool during summer.

After the typhoon 台風の後

2015.8.26

I went out to see one of my old friends after no-see of  several months. The typhoon #15 was attacking through the south-west part of Japan, and we only had a little of gust and some rain.

Today, we had intermittent rains and sunshine between them.  I went out in the garden while sun was shining.

昨日は久しぶりの友人を訪ねて少々外出して来た。台風15号は九州を攻撃して通過したので、この辺りでは少々のガストと雨位だった。

今日は時々の雨とその間の日照だ。日が照っている間にカメラを持って出た。

このチランジアは生気が少ないのだが、生きている。花だ。
This Tillandsia looks lifeless. But, it is alive! Here is a flower.

植え替えする場所がない。
Sorry I don't have any place to propagate.

Staghorn fern. This was the first year to see Foliar frond for this species.

Cooling off 暑さを逃れて

この辺りは恐ろしく暑い。外の温度は最高36℃、最低でも26℃だ。外にでると、熱したオーブンの中に入ったような気がする。多肉は幾つか死んだ。そろそろ植物をエアコンの効いた室内に入れて涼ませてやる時だ。
It is horribly hot here. Outside temp is 36 deg C high and the low is 26 deg C. When I go outside, I really feel like I enter an heated oven. Some of my succulents died. It is about time to let some of the plats cool off in the air-conditioned room.

最初にうちに入れたのは、白虎オオウラボシという名前のシダだ。これは多孔質溶岩石の上に開けた小さなクボミに植えてあるので暑さの影響が酷い。入れた時には殆どドライフラワーになりかけていた。受け皿に少々の水を保って、今は元気になった。
The first one I brought in was this fern. As it is planted in a small dent on a porous lava rock, the heat affected it really badly. I took it in when it was about to become dry leaves. With some water in the dish under the rock, now it looks really pleased.

次は球根ベゴニア。こいつらは夏の暑さ嫌いで知られている。去年は葉っぱを皆落として休眠してしまった。大体の場合秋になれば回復するのだが、そのためのエネルギーロスは大きいと思う。今年はこいつらが葉っぱを落とし始めて直ぐにうちに入れた。

The next are bulbous Begonias. They are known to hate summer heat. Last year it went hibernated dropping all their leaves. Mostly they recover in autumn, but I think it has their big energy lost. I took them in when they started losing their leaves.

これは種が２つできている。新株に育つといいな。

This one have two young seed sheaths, and I wish they survive to grow into young plants. 

こいつは少し手遅れだったようだ。主枝は死にかけている。しかし、土の表面から若芽が育ち始めている。

It was a little too late for this one. The main stem is dying, but the young buds started to grow from the soil.

植え替え Repotting

2014.6.1

夏に弱い雲間草とレウイシア。涼しくするために大きい鉢に隙間を開けて植え替えた。まだ，キツイかなぁ。

Both of Saxifrage and  Lewisia hate hot summer.  To make them stay cooler, I repotted to a larger pot.  Still, it looks crowded.

植え替え前はこれだからね。鉢からあふれていた。密植の証拠にでかいナメクジがあちこち3匹も隠れていた。
This is a picture of them in the last pot.  They were almost spilling over.  To prove they were crowded, there were three huge slugs hiding around the pot.

こちらはアオネカズラ。前の信楽鉢から匍匐茎が溢れかけていたので，大きめの平鉢に植え替えた。結構気難しいので，うまく育つといいけど。
This is a Polypodium niponicum, a Japanese fern. Creepers were going over the edge of previous pot.  It was replanted to the larger flat pot.  Although it is　sensitive and fussy about the environment, I hope it will grow healthy.
