The hint of autumn 秋の兆し

21と書いてみて、もう九月も下旬だというのに少し驚いた。去年は、夏、夏、夏、突然冬という味気ない年だったが。今年は夏から秋へのゆっくりとした移り変わりが楽しめた。
Writing 21, it is a bit of surprise that it is already late September. Last year autumn was nowhere, and tasteless like summer, summer, summer, and winter all the sudden. We have been able to enjoy the slow change of seasons from summer to autumn this year.

植物も季節の変化に気づいている。そして季節に相応しく装い始めた。
The plants have also noticed the change of seasons. And they have started to display themselves appropriate for the season.

ハゼノキの寄せ植え鉢は葉が全て黄色と赤に染まった。

アメリカハナミズキ。この木は斑入りの葉が綺麗なのだが、ここに植えて20年以上一度も花が咲いたことがない。その頑固さは「俺の特技は美しい葉なんだよ。その辺の普通の花じゃねぇんだ。」と主張しているようだ。
Dogwood leaves. This tree is beautiful for the variegated leaves but never flowered for more than twenty years since planted here. The stubbornness is like insisting, "My speciality is just beautiful leaves, not those ordinary flowers like the others around."

イワヒバコレクションの内幾つかは少し色づき始めた。
Some of my Selaginella collections started to change color just a little.

More bulbs and one more challenge もっと球根を、そして再度チャレンジ

名古屋サボテン倶楽部の半年毎展示即売会に行って来た。今回は例年に比べ、マニアというよりは普通の人風の老若男女が多く、ごった返していた。
我が家にはもうほとんど冬の置き場がないにもかかわらず、3つ買ってしまった。

I went to semiannual "Nagoya Cactus Club" exhibition and sale. This time, there are a lot of young, old, male and female ordinary people, not maniacs filled the site. I picked up three even though we hardly have free space to accommodate them in winter.

一つ目は、蒼角殿。球根は埋まっていて見えないが、俺はこいつがその名の通り玉ねぎのような球根を持っていることを知っている。うちに帰ってからググってみたらいいニュース。思ったより育成は簡単らしい。
This is one of them Bowiea Volubilis, Climbing Onion. The bulb of this plant is buried and hidden, but I know it has a bulb like an onion that is the reason of the common name. After I came back home, I googled and found a good news. It is easy to cultivate than I imagined.

次は、セイリギア・フムベルティ。サボテンのようなものかと思って買ってきたが、これも球根植物らしい。
The next one is Seyrigia Humbertii. I thought this was a kind of cactus, but found out this is also bulbous.

3つめは鳳卵、プレイオスピロス属だ。私が以前プレイオスピロスを二度ダメにしたことを知っている人も居るかもしれない。3度目の正直というやつだ。
The third one is Pleiospilos Bolusii. Some of you may know I killed two Pleiospilos before. I hope, "The third time pays for all."

ちなみに、これがこの夏腐って乾燥した「ロイヤルフラッシュ」の跡。
By the way, this is the remain of "Royal flash" that was rotten and dried this past summer.

More ferns その他のシダ

昨日紹介した以外にもまだツタを持っている。

There are more than what I introduced yesterday.

マメヅタ。シダのようには見えないが、シダなのだ。細い葉は胞子葉だ。よく野生の物を見かけるのだが、私の経験では増やすのは簡単ではない。

Lemmaphyllum microphyllum Presl. It does not look like a fern, but it is. the narrow leaves are microsporophylls. I frequently see them wild. But in my experiences it is not easy to propagate.

モミジヒトツバ。これは着生とされているが、私は地植えにしてある。結構これも好きなようで、小さな草むらを作っている。
Pyrrosia polydactylia. Even though this is one of epiphytic plants. But, I planted this on the ground, and it looks liking the environment to form a small bush.

シダも集めている。どうやら原始的な植物が好きらしい。
I am collecting ferns, too. I seem to like primitive plants.

アオネカズラ。この緑色の太い根っこが魅力的。これはゆっくりしか育たないのに、夏には葉を落とす傾向がある。今は葉が戻ってきた所。
Polypodium nipponicum. The green thick roots are appealing. This is a slow grower, and tends to lose leaves in summer. Now, leaves are coming back.

ヒトツバ。硬い、濃緑の葉が中々渋い。葉が育つにつれ色が濃くなってくる。
Pyrrosia lingua. I look cool with hard dark-green leaves. Green gets darker as each leaf grows.

コウモリラン。一番奇妙な形だ。これは育てて数年以上になるが、本体から垂れ下がる胞子葉が着いたのは始めてだ。
Stag-horn fern, Platycerium wandae? This is the eeriest. I've been keeping this more than several years, and this is the first time it had sporophyll that is hanging from the body.

イワオモダカ。どんどん増える。何度も株を真っ二つにして親戚や友人にあげたが、数年で元の鉢一杯に育つ。
Pyrrosia hastata. Fast grower. I divide the plants into halves and gave the half to my relatives and friends several times, but in few years it filled the pot again.

シノブ
Davallia mariesii Moore ex Baker.

このシダは日本では百年以上も愛好されている。夏にシダを風鈴と一緒に吊って涼をとるのだ。
This is a fern that has been very common in Japan for hundreds of years. People hang small ones with wind chimes to feel cool during summer.

moss and moss コケコケ

When I travel, sometimes I bring back mosses that are not familiar.
This was found when we had a trip to Horaiji Mtn. and surrounding area.
I think this is Leucobryum juniperoideum, White moss.

これは鳳来寺山辺に一泊旅行した時に見つめた。
シラガゴケ科シラガゴケ属ホソバオキナゴケと思われる。

室生寺を尋ねた時、そのあたりで採集した。
ホウオウゴケ目ホウオウゴケ科ホウオウゴケ属と思われる

This is the one I found when we visited "Muroji" temple.
I think this is Fissidens dubius, Rock/Maidenhair Pocket-moss.
This is not so well grow in the environment of us, always repeating about to extinct and coming back.

これは私のアクアテラリウム用に買ったもの。日本では南米ウィローモスと呼ばれていて、水槽用にはごく普通。去年試しに庭にある小さな池の辺りに植えてみた。熱帯産と思われるが、この環境が気に入ったようでどんどん広がっている。
This is one that I bought for decorating my fish aqua-terrarium. It is called "South American willow moss" in Japan very common for aquarium in Japan. Last year I tried to plant at the edge of a small pond in our garden. Even though it is tropic, it seems it liked the environment and keep growing.

ミズゴケ。　蠅捕草かサラセニアを買って上と同じ池に植えた時に鉢植え使われていたものが広がってしまった。食虫植物の方は枯れてしまったが。
Sphagnum. I think this has grown from the one used as soil substitute when I bought Dionaea or Sarracenia and planted in the pond as same as above. The carnivorous plants died.
