嬉しいが困る I feel happy but troubled

しばらく前に知り合いからお土産としてジャカランダの種（実?）を頂いた。
漢方薬のような雰囲気だ。
A while ago, we were given seeds or a dried fruit? of jacaranda tree as an souvenir by one of our acquaintances.

２つに割ると中はこうなっている。
左側は種を外してしまったが、初めは右のように種が沢山ついていた。

ネットで調べてみたら、結構皆さんやっているようで、情報には困らない。
4月初め頃に、育苗ポットに土を入れて撒いた。しばらくするとカビなのか放線菌なのかが生えてしまった。
Searching internet, I found it is fairly popular to seed jacaranda, and was able to find plenty of information.  In early April, I seeded them in plastic pots with soil.  After a while, fungi or actinomycete started to grow.

ある朝よく見ると、その内の幾つかから芽だ。
One morning, looking closely, I found several sprouts appeared in some of the pots.

 一つのポットに3つ位づつ撒いた。結構高い率で発芽するようだ。
I seeded about three seeds in each pot.  The probability seems fairly high.

芽が出てくれると嬉しいけど、冬は屋内で育てないといけない。今から置き場所を悩んでいる。
種はまだ沢山あるから、欲しい人には差し上げます。
I feel happy to see the sprouts.  However, I have to keep them in the house during winter, I feel troubled where to keep them.
There remain plenty of seeds.  I am happy to share them if anybody would like to try.

ベゴニア・マソニアナは我慢強い Begonia masoniana, Iron cross is patient. Very patient.

去年の6月に送別会を開いてもらった。
これが、その時に貰った花束。
Last June, my college held a farewell party for me.
This is the bouquet presented to me.

 今日の主役はこのベゴニア・マソニア。またの名をアイアンクロス。
花束は大事にしていたが、一つづつ弱いものからダメになっていく。
だんだん少なくなって・・・、カラーは結構長持ちした。
Today's story features this Begonia masoniana.  A synonym is iron cross.  I took a good care of the bouquet, but one by one the flowers and leaves have gone.  Fewer and fewer they became, Calla was one of them stayed healthy long.

ベゴニアはこのまま枯らしてしまっては勿体無いなと、葉ざし（葉脈挿し）というのを試してみた。葉を半分に切って、中心の葉脈を土に浅く埋めるように小さな鉢に植えた。
何ヶ月も何も起きなかったが、ある日鉢の裏を見たら根がびっしりとあふれていた。これはイケるかなと、大きな鉢に植え替えた。
  I thought it is pity to have the begonia gone in a vase, I  buried a half of the leaf in shallow soil in a small pot.  Nothing happened until I found a lot of roots pouring from the bottom of the pot a few months later.  I felt promising and repotted it to a larger pot.

　それからまた半年くらい諦め気味の日々が過ぎ、春がきた。春だからもしかしたら芽が出るかと少々期待していたら、数日前から土の上に白い毛のようなものが見えていた。カビでも生えたかな、その内とってやらんとな、程度に思っていた。
　今朝見たら、カビの色が変わっている。よく見ると、カビではない。老眼でも判る新芽が出てきたのだ。
  It has passed almost a half year of  reconciling days, and spring has come.  I was a little expecting that a new leaf may come out since spring is such a season.   A few days ago, I saw a white hairy stuff on the surface.  I thought it might be mold, and had to remove soon.
  This morning, the hairy stuff changed the color.  Looking closer, it is not mold.  Even with my old eyes, I recognized it is a new leaf.

9ヶ月以上が過ぎている。なんという辛抱強さだろうか。根茎を成長させるまで葉を出さなかったのだろうか。こちらも我慢してよかった。

It has passed more than nine months.  What patience!  I wonder it has been growing rhizome before starting a leaf.  It was good that I did not give up.

  もう一つ、この赤いドラセナも葉ざしにしてみたが、根が出なかったので諦めた。
  I tried to propagate this red dracaena, but it did not grow any roots, and I gave up.

今日は梯子だ! I crawled!

2014.11.1

11月初日は雨で明けた。

朝から予定どおりインフルエンザの予防注射。なじみのお医者さんでブチュっとやってもらった。色々面倒なアンケートを事前に書く割には、注射はシンプルだ。このお医者さん、植物が結構好きで、診察室の出窓は観葉植物の温室のようになっている。最近は多肉に手を出したがうまくいってないらしい。巻柏の話は聞いたことがないので、やっていないのだろう。

The first dawn of November was rainy.

We went for vaccination against influenza as planned.  We got shots at our familiar home doctor.  The shot is easy although the written confession before is really complicated.  By the way, the doctor likes plants.  So, a huge bay window of his clinic is a gorgeous greenhouse.  Recently, I heard he started succulents, but it is not going well.  Since I have never heard about selaginella from him, I guess he does not have them. 

今日から、名古屋支部の巻柏展。そして、今年は東海支部も同じ日にやっていることを知った。比較的近いので梯子をすることにした。

From today, there held a selaginella exhibition of the Nagoya branch.  And, this year, I found the one of the Tokai branch was held on a same day.  The location is fairly close, so I decided to exhibition-clawl.

名古屋支部の展示会は庄内緑地公園にある庄内緑地グリーンプラザ。秋の巻柏は紅葉が目玉だな。我が家の鉢とは似ても似つかぬような艶やかな色彩が展示されている。春から夏にかけて、太陽に当てながら、当て過ぎす、その具合がポイントらしい。

The one of the Nagoya branch was held at Shonai Green plaza.  Colored leaves are key points of Selaginella in autumn.  Glamorous pots were displayed that were far different from ones at my home.  The point is that from spring to summer they must be kept in sunshine but not too much, they say.

今まであまり目立たなかったが、今回は石付けが幾つか出されていた。巻柏以外の植物も寄せ植えされている。

Until this year, I did not notice, but this time several ones planted on rocks were displayed.  Plants other than selaginella were together.

で、お楽しみの即売会だが、今回は色々迷ったあげくに一つだけ手に入れた。

Well, as for my favorite shopping, I bought just one this year after wondering which one to pick.  This is the one with small dense leaves with yellow and red color.  Isn't it nice?

 この後、東海支部の展示会が行われている日本ライン花木センターに回った。こちらは会員数が少ないのか規模は小さかったが、こんなのを見つけたので、買っておいた。丈夫で成長も早いらしい。
Next, I went to Japan Rhine flower and tree center where the exhibits of Tokai branch was held.  The size of the show was much smaller, but I found this pot and bought.  They say this is hardy and grows fast.

 巻柏展は、日本ライン花木センターの一角、せり市場での開催だったが、残りの販売場所はいつも通り。せっかく来たのでぐるぐるっと回ってみた。
 すると、そっちにこんなのがあった。これも育てれば見事になるはず、とゲット。
The exhibit was at the flower auction marketplace.  The other shops were open as usual.  Since I came this far, I walked around the shops.  Then, I found this.  This should grow great if I am good.

そして、巻柏ではないが、多肉コーナーで、これが目に入った。お安かったのでゲット。豹紋という球根植物らしい。春に花が咲くとか。

And, though this is not a selaginella, I noticed this at the succulent corner.  Since it was cheap, I took this, too.  It is bulbous, and have small flowers in spring.

巻柏は寒くなると綺麗に紅葉することで知られている。

我が家の巻柏は少々違う。

Japanese selaginella is famous for the colored leaves when it gets colder.

Mines are a little different.

他の木の紅葉を借用だ！！　（笑）

They hire colored leaves of some other tree.  lol

持ち主に似て怠惰なのか？

Are they lazy imitating laziness of the owner?

2014. 10. 19

旅行に行って留守にしていた。水やりは自動でセットされていたが，台風が２回も来たし，どうなっているのかと心配しながら帰ってみれば，

I have been absent from home while traveling.  Watering was set to be automatic, but there came two big typhoons.  I came home worrying, and this is what I find.

これは，夏に買ったイワヒバの鉢から生えていた芽を植えた鉢。葉っぱはホトトギスみたいだが，小さいからなんだろうと思っていたら，なにやら妙なものになった。ホタルブクロでもないし・・・

This is one of several young leaves parasitizing in the selaginella pot I bought at Tateshina this past summer.  I was not sure what these were although they look like toad lilies but too small.  There is a strange bud like a bellflower, but I have never seen it.  

翌朝正体を現した。やっぱりホタルブクロだ。イワヒバ苗としては少々高かったが，おまけ付きを見ぬいた私の目は大したものだ。と自画自賛。

Next morning it opens.  It IS a toad lily bud.  I just have never seen buds of toad lily.  The price of the selaginella pot was a little too expensive, but it was talent of me that foreseen the freebie. 

出かける時には蕾だったネリネは，満開を過ぎているが，まだ見られる。ゆっくり咲く花で良かった。 

Nerine was still buds, and now it is still flowering although not at the full bloom.

リンドウも徒長苗のようになっていて気になっていたが，なんと見事にたくさん咲いた。リンドウが二年目も咲いたのは初めてだ。 

Gentiana had been not looking good spindly growing, but at my surprise they made a lot of beautiful flowers.  This is my first time that genitana gives flowers over two years.

カランコエは花か新芽か判らないが，何やら２つも伸びてきた。

Kalanchoe has started to grow two shoots whether it may become flowers or pups.

何だか，主人がいないほうがうまく育つみたいだな。

It looks like they grow better without their keeper...

多肉に続きエアプランツ Air plants arrangement following succulents

2014.9.2

去年の冬にワインのコルクをリサイクルして作った台に２つ目のエアプランツをくっつけた。

左の長いのはもう半年くらい経つので，花が咲き終わり，子供が生えてきている。

Last winter, I recycled wine corks to a stage for air plants.  I added second one.  The long one on the left was attached about a half year ago, and it has bloomed and having a small baby.

秋が来た Autumn has come.

2014.9.1

変だなぁと思っているうちに，夏が終わってしまった。毎日毎日秋雨が降り涼しい日が続く。多肉も秋を感じているだろうか。

それなら，夏休みは終了にして秋モードの作業をしてみた。

エケベリア等は伸び放題だったのを切り詰めて挿し芽，挿し芽。

While I have been puzzled about the weather of  this summer, the summer has gone so early this year.  It has been raining and raining, and cool days has been continuing.  Do my succulents feel autumn?

If so, I started work for autumn.

First, echeverias were growing as they wanted, so I cut the stems and planted them.

このハオルチア白水晶にはアロエ　デンティティを並べた。
Haworthia obtusa was arranged with Aloe Dentity..

セネキオ　アーティキュラタスは，去年の冬に一株がこんなに増えちゃったので，少々広い鉢に引っ越し。
Senecio articulatus was moved into a larger pot, since it has grown this size from just one.

アエオニウムの枝を切り取って挿し木に備えて乾燥。空中でも発根してしまうんだよ。
その後，これをまとめて植えたらどうなっちゃうかなぁ。
Aeoniums are hanged to dry.  They will root even in the air.  What will it be if I planted them all in one?

このアエオニウム玉姫椿にもお仲間の小人の祭りをお友達に。
Aeonium_aureum gets friends of aeonium sedifolium.　

ネリネは根鉢を崩さずに鉢増ししたが，これで良かったのかなぁ。
Nerine were repotted to a little larger pot without breaking root clump.  I wonder this was the way...

サンセベリア二鉢を一鉢に集結。
Two sansevieria pots were gathered into one square pot.

サボテンも集結。Cactus were planted into one pot, too.
