開花 Blooming

2017.7.14

6月は旅行で暫く留守にしていた。植物たちはそんなことおかまいなしに元気である。多肉やサボテンは花をつけている。
I was away for a while in June while I was traveling. Regardless of my absence, the plants are fine as usual. My succulent and cacti are blooming.

これは今シーズン2回目の花を準備している。
This is preparing the second flower in this season.

この花は見落とした。気がついた時には終わっていたのだ。
I failed to see this flower. When I noticed it was over.

贈り物 Gift

2016.10.27

一ヶ月前友人に差し上げる多肉の鉢植えを幾つか作った。差し上げる準備が整ったようだ、でもたくさんすぎるとありがた迷惑になるかも。
I made several pots of succulents about a month ago that would be gifts to one of my friends. Now, they look ready to go, even though they might think them too many.

標高の高いところに住んでいるので、比較的寒さに強いものを選んだ。実際、アエオニウムやハオルチアは暑くて湿度の高い夏が嫌いだから、あちらのほうがうまく育つと思う。
Since they are living at high elevation, I chose what are relatively winter-hardy. Actually, aeoniums and haworthias would do better there because they hate hot and humid summer.

忙しき日は続く Busy days continue.

2011.9.11

前にも書いたように、秋は園芸家にとって最も忙しい季節の一つである。ここ数日でもう一鉢のクリスマスローズと紫陽花を2本地植えにした。この紫陽花は今年春に静岡県で買った物だ。
As I had wrote before, autumn is one of the busiest season for gardeners. In these few days, I planted one more lenten rose, and two hydrangeas on the ground. The hydrangeas were what I bought this spring in Shizuoka prefecture.

それからアメリカサイカチの枝を少し切った。この秋にしなくてはならない剪定のほんの内部だ。
Then, I also cut several branches of honey locust. Just a little parts of many pruning that I have to do in this autumn.

友人の家庭に差し上げる多肉を7鉢作った。
I arranged seven succulents pots as gifts to my friend family.

また、庭にある鉢をあちこちと動かした。秋の涼しくなった太陽に最適な場所にするためだ。明日はこの春に挿し木した紫陽花の苗を4鉢、別の友人のご家庭に差し上げることになっている。
I have to move pots in the garden here and there so that the location of them suit well to cooler autumn sun. It is planned that four young hydrangeas that I propagated this spring are given to another family tomorrow.

そうすれば、もっと場所が空いて、自由に鉢を動かせるようになる。
After that I will have some more space to move around my pots more freely.

季節が涼しくなるに連れもっとやらなくてはならないことがある。忙しい日々は続く。
As season gets cooler, more work need to be conducted. Busy days will continue.

雨の日は On a rainy day.

2016.4.21

今日は昼ごろから雨がふりだした。午後には遊んでいたキジバトの赤ん坊も、夕方暗くなると少し寒そうである。なんで木陰に隠れないのだろう? 親鳩を待っているのか?

It's started to rain from around noon today. The baby turtledoves were playing in the rain in the afternoon, but it looks a little cold after sky got darker in the evening. Why doesn't it hide under any tree? Is it waiting for their parent?

こんな雨の日はいい天気の日の写真を振り返ろう。
In a day like today, let's look back a picture in a bright day.

家の中にいたほうがいいだろうと思ったので、冬越しした多肉を3つの小さな鉢に植え替えた。後ろの大きめの鉢が挿し枝を作った鉢だ。
Since I thought I'd better stay indoor, I replanted succulents survived winter into three small pots. The larger one at the far back is the pot I made cuttings.

ベコニアの鉢を見ると芽が出ていた、しかし一つからだけだ。もう一つは枯れてしまったかもしれない。
Looking at a pot of begonia, I found young leaves had come out - but from only one bulb. There is another bulb that might have been dead.

雨の窓辺で、多肉の赤ちゃんが潅水なしに親の養分を吸い取りどんどん育っていた。凄いな。
By the rainy window these succulents babies are sucking their parents, and growing fast without any water from outside. Amazing.

More bulbs and one more challenge もっと球根を、そして再度チャレンジ

名古屋サボテン倶楽部の半年毎展示即売会に行って来た。今回は例年に比べ、マニアというよりは普通の人風の老若男女が多く、ごった返していた。
我が家にはもうほとんど冬の置き場がないにもかかわらず、3つ買ってしまった。

I went to semiannual "Nagoya Cactus Club" exhibition and sale. This time, there are a lot of young, old, male and female ordinary people, not maniacs filled the site. I picked up three even though we hardly have free space to accommodate them in winter.

一つ目は、蒼角殿。球根は埋まっていて見えないが、俺はこいつがその名の通り玉ねぎのような球根を持っていることを知っている。うちに帰ってからググってみたらいいニュース。思ったより育成は簡単らしい。
This is one of them Bowiea Volubilis, Climbing Onion. The bulb of this plant is buried and hidden, but I know it has a bulb like an onion that is the reason of the common name. After I came back home, I googled and found a good news. It is easy to cultivate than I imagined.

次は、セイリギア・フムベルティ。サボテンのようなものかと思って買ってきたが、これも球根植物らしい。
The next one is Seyrigia Humbertii. I thought this was a kind of cactus, but found out this is also bulbous.

3つめは鳳卵、プレイオスピロス属だ。私が以前プレイオスピロスを二度ダメにしたことを知っている人も居るかもしれない。3度目の正直というやつだ。
The third one is Pleiospilos Bolusii. Some of you may know I killed two Pleiospilos before. I hope, "The third time pays for all."

ちなみに、これがこの夏腐って乾燥した「ロイヤルフラッシュ」の跡。
By the way, this is the remain of "Royal flash" that was rotten and dried this past summer.

After the typhoon 台風の後

2015.8.26

I went out to see one of my old friends after no-see of  several months. The typhoon #15 was attacking through the south-west part of Japan, and we only had a little of gust and some rain.

Today, we had intermittent rains and sunshine between them.  I went out in the garden while sun was shining.

昨日は久しぶりの友人を訪ねて少々外出して来た。台風15号は九州を攻撃して通過したので、この辺りでは少々のガストと雨位だった。

今日は時々の雨とその間の日照だ。日が照っている間にカメラを持って出た。

このチランジアは生気が少ないのだが、生きている。花だ。
This Tillandsia looks lifeless. But, it is alive! Here is a flower.

植え替えする場所がない。
Sorry I don't have any place to propagate.

秋の兆し? Hints of autumn?

多分日本の南に２つも台風があるためだろうが、ここ数日の気温は30℃を下回っている。少し早い秋という感じだ。

Probably because of two typhoons at the south of Japan, the temperature of past several days were lower than 30 deg C. This is like a little early autumn weather.

理由はなんであれうちの多肉たちは、ひと月近く続いた酷い高温と高湿度の後で、一息つけているようだ。
Whatever the cause is, my succulents seem to be able to catch their breath after severe horrible hotness and humidity for about a month.

亀甲竜は暑い時期の休眠から目覚め、糸のように細い蔓を伸ばし始めた。その内、ハート型の葉を広げるだろう。こいつは触れるものなんでも絡みつくので、今年はアルミ線で渦巻きの支えを作ってあげた。
Dioscorea Elephantipes, Elephant's Foot, or Hottentot Bread recovered from his hibernation during hot season, and started to grow fine string like vine. It will soon open up leaves having shapes of hearts. It twines around anything that touches, so I made for him a spiral support with an aluminum wire this year.

 アルブカ・スピラリス ‘フリズルシズル’ 。去年は葉を落とさなかったのだが、今年は球根の一つが葉を落として休眠してしまった。春に花が咲いた時花茎が重くて球根ごと傾き、根を痛めてしまったせいだと思う。これも葉を伸ばし始めた。
Albuca Spiralis "frizzle sizzle" did not lost leaves last summer, but this year one of the bulbs lost the leaves and went dormant. I think it is because the roots were damaged as the bulb was badly inclined by the weight of flower stalk when it bloomed this spring. But, it also started to grow leaves.

台風が去った後また暑くなるだろう。こいつらが戻り夏に耐えられるように願う。
After the typhoon would go away, it will be hotter again. I wish they can tolerate the coming back of summer.

秋が来た Autumn has come.

2014.9.1

変だなぁと思っているうちに，夏が終わってしまった。毎日毎日秋雨が降り涼しい日が続く。多肉も秋を感じているだろうか。

それなら，夏休みは終了にして秋モードの作業をしてみた。

エケベリア等は伸び放題だったのを切り詰めて挿し芽，挿し芽。

While I have been puzzled about the weather of  this summer, the summer has gone so early this year.  It has been raining and raining, and cool days has been continuing.  Do my succulents feel autumn?

If so, I started work for autumn.

First, echeverias were growing as they wanted, so I cut the stems and planted them.

このハオルチア白水晶にはアロエ　デンティティを並べた。
Haworthia obtusa was arranged with Aloe Dentity..

セネキオ　アーティキュラタスは，去年の冬に一株がこんなに増えちゃったので，少々広い鉢に引っ越し。
Senecio articulatus was moved into a larger pot, since it has grown this size from just one.

アエオニウムの枝を切り取って挿し木に備えて乾燥。空中でも発根してしまうんだよ。
その後，これをまとめて植えたらどうなっちゃうかなぁ。
Aeoniums are hanged to dry.  They will root even in the air.  What will it be if I planted them all in one?

このアエオニウム玉姫椿にもお仲間の小人の祭りをお友達に。
Aeonium_aureum gets friends of aeonium sedifolium.　

ネリネは根鉢を崩さずに鉢増ししたが，これで良かったのかなぁ。
Nerine were repotted to a little larger pot without breaking root clump.  I wonder this was the way...

サンセベリア二鉢を一鉢に集結。
Two sansevieria pots were gathered into one square pot.

サボテンも集結。Cactus were planted into one pot, too.
