起きなさいね Wake up, Wake up

うちの巻柏を目覚めさせるときである。数日前、そのために冬中掛けあったビニールを剥ぎ取り、水を掛けた。次の日は一日雨だった。なので、ずぶ濡れになった筈である。
It is time to wake up my selaginellas.
To do so, I removed a vinyl covering them whole winter, and poured water a few days ago. Next day was rain. So they should have been soaked.

しかしまだ、起きない鉢もある。怠け者め。
Still some are not waken up. You sluggers!

どうも、若いというか小さい株ほど大きい高齢の鉢より早く目覚める気がする。子供の頃日曜日には両親よりも早く起きて、両親が起きてくるまで何もすることがなかったことを思い出した。
It seems young or small ones wake up faster than the big old ones. This reminds me when I was a kid, I woke up on every Sunday much earlier than my parents and had nothing to do until they woke up.

将に起きんとす、というところか。
This is the one about to wake up.

これは我が家に来てから何年にもなるヒヤシンスである。大きな花は咲かないが、毎年律儀に咲くのである。
This is a hyacinth that has come to our home many years ago. Although it does not have a big flower, it blooms faithfully in spring every year.

プリムラはギュウギュウ詰めになった!
Primula flowers are jam-packed!

レンテンローズもまだ綺麗である。
Lenten roses are also still in good shapes.

一昨日までは、一週間以上雨が続いた。庭の鉢植えが腐ってしまわないかと心配だつた。私の心配を他所に、鉢植えたちは結局秋の日の光の中で元気なようだ。

Until the day before  yesterday, it has been rain for more than a week. I was afraid all the pots outside would go rotten.  Regardless of my fear, it looks like pots looks great in an autumn sun after all. 

私は秋の庭仕事を再開した。供したことの1つは秋にやろうとは考えていなかったことだ、というのは早春にやるべきだと思っていたからだ。あまり確信はなかったので今日幾つかのサイトを調べてみると、今やるのだと知った。何かというと春に買って小さめの鉢に植えたプリムラの株分け、植え替えだ。去年までは、うちのプリムラは夏の間に弱るか枯れてしまう事が多かった。いつもやや乾かし気味に育てていたのだ。しかし、今年は毎日水をやり日陰で育ててきた、それが結果的に良かったようだ。その結果、鉢は満杯になった。

I resumed my autumn work in the garden. One thing I did today was not planned to be done in autumn because I had thought it should be done in early spring. As I was not sure about the time I checked several net site and found I had to do it now. It is repotting and division of a primula that I bought this spring and planted in a rather small pot. Until last year, primulas in my garden mostly got very weak or die during summer. I was keeping them in rather dry condition. But, this year I kept it watered everyday and in the shade, and it turned out very good for it. As a result the pot was filled. 

始める前は、幾つかに分けて少し大きい鉢に植え戻すつもりだった。しかし、株分けしてみると、10株以上が皿の上に残った。鉢は1つでは足りない。これが、植え替えた内の二鉢だ。

Before I started, I planned to divide the plant into several parts and plant them back to one larger pot. After I divided them, however, I found myself with more than ten small plants in a tray. Then, I needed more than one pots. 

These are two of them.

これが残りの2鉢。私の作業はがさつなので、幾つかの株は根が殆どなかったり、全く無かったりだった。小さな茶色の鉢にあるのがその根が殆どないという奴らだ。葉まで少ない。どうなるか暫くはよく見ていないといけない。

These are the other two of them. As my work is not so delicate, some of the plants were divided with very little or no roots. The ones in a small brown pot are the ones with scarce. Even leaves are scarce. I have to watch carefully for a while how they will be. 

 他の植物はいつもの秋のごとく普通に育っている。この亀甲竜と呼ばれるのは長い夏の休眠の後バリバリ育っている。
Others are as normal as the regular autumn. This one called elephant's foot grow a vine fiercely after long sleep during hot summer.

リンドウもやっと咲き始めた。葉は少々いたんでいる。
Gentians started flowering at last with some damage on leaves.

アガベをもう一つ門の外に植えた。
I planted one more agave outside of the gate.

アガベって棘で門を守っているみたいに見えない?
Aren't agaves looking like protect our gate with those spines?

これは、セイリギア・フンベルティという名前だ、よく育っているのは枝2本だけだ。なんとかもう少し背が低く枝が広がるように育てられないものだろうか?もっと日照が必要なのかな?
This one named Seyrigia humbertii grows well, but only these two branches. Is I wonder there is anyway making it grow with more but shorter branches. Maybe more sunshine?

その2は花だ。
#2 is for spring flowers.

マキシラリア。軒下で越冬して咲いてくれるありがたい蘭だ。骸骨花というありがたくない名前ももらっている。
Maxillaria. This is a good behaving orchid that pass the winter under the eaves. It has a unthankful name of "skull flower".

なるほど骸骨花。

Indeed, skull flower...

カロライナ　ジャスミン。植えて数年何故か花芽がつかなかったが、やっと今年、はじめての蕾だ。
Carolina yellow jasmine. It has been several years since I planted. For the first time, it bore buds.

マーシュマロウ。秋から冬の間ずっと咲いてくれた。そろそろお休みの時期かな。
Marsh mallow. It keeps flowering from autumn to winter. It is about time they stop blooming.

スミレ。自然に生えてくるのだが、可愛い。何種類もあるようだが、これは白に紫の縞。
Violet. They came out naturally, but cuties. There are many types, and this is with white petals with violet stripes.

ブルーベリー。今年はいくつ生るのやら。
Blueberry. I wonder how many fruits we get.

モッコウバラ。例年、連休あたりに咲くのだが、今年は一番花がもう咲き出した。
Lady Banks rose. Usually, it blooms at the end of April or the beginning of May season, but the first flowers started to bloom this year already.

プリムラ。園芸店で少し枯れかけて格安販売されていた。ちょっと詰め込み過ぎか、葉をまくったらカビが生えていた。花ガラと枯れ葉を取り除いた。これから少し水やりも削減しよう。

Primula. This was sold at discount because it was about to wither. I guess I planted too crowded. I found fungus by looking under the leaves. I removed withered leaves and flowers. I have to be careful not watering too much.

チューリップ。このおっ開いた咲き方は我が家ではバカ咲きと呼ばれている。こうなるともうあまり長くない。

Tulip. The way it blooms opening petals is called "idiot blooming". They won't last after flowering like this.

山吹。満開だ。
Kerria. Full of bloom.

水仙。特殊な種類? いえ、普通の八重咲きなのですが何かに食われてしまったのだ。
Daffodil. Is this special species? No, this is regular double petaled, but something bit it.

写真を撮って家の中に戻ったら、マックスがもうそろそろ昼飯だろうとドアのところで待っていた。お待たせ、お待たせ。
