シダも集めている。どうやら原始的な植物が好きらしい。
I am collecting ferns, too. I seem to like primitive plants.

アオネカズラ。この緑色の太い根っこが魅力的。これはゆっくりしか育たないのに、夏には葉を落とす傾向がある。今は葉が戻ってきた所。
Polypodium nipponicum. The green thick roots are appealing. This is a slow grower, and tends to lose leaves in summer. Now, leaves are coming back.

ヒトツバ。硬い、濃緑の葉が中々渋い。葉が育つにつれ色が濃くなってくる。
Pyrrosia lingua. I look cool with hard dark-green leaves. Green gets darker as each leaf grows.

コウモリラン。一番奇妙な形だ。これは育てて数年以上になるが、本体から垂れ下がる胞子葉が着いたのは始めてだ。
Stag-horn fern, Platycerium wandae? This is the eeriest. I've been keeping this more than several years, and this is the first time it had sporophyll that is hanging from the body.

イワオモダカ。どんどん増える。何度も株を真っ二つにして親戚や友人にあげたが、数年で元の鉢一杯に育つ。
Pyrrosia hastata. Fast grower. I divide the plants into halves and gave the half to my relatives and friends several times, but in few years it filled the pot again.

Davallia mariesii Moore ex Baker.

このシダは日本では百年以上も愛好されている。夏にシダを風鈴と一緒に吊って涼をとるのだ。
This is a fern that has been very common in Japan for hundreds of years. People hang small ones with wind chimes to feel cool during summer.

植え替え Repotting

2014.6.1

夏に弱い雲間草とレウイシア。涼しくするために大きい鉢に隙間を開けて植え替えた。まだ，キツイかなぁ。

Both of Saxifrage and  Lewisia hate hot summer.  To make them stay cooler, I repotted to a larger pot.  Still, it looks crowded.

植え替え前はこれだからね。鉢からあふれていた。密植の証拠にでかいナメクジがあちこち3匹も隠れていた。
This is a picture of them in the last pot.  They were almost spilling over.  To prove they were crowded, there were three huge slugs hiding around the pot.

こちらはアオネカズラ。前の信楽鉢から匍匐茎が溢れかけていたので，大きめの平鉢に植え替えた。結構気難しいので，うまく育つといいけど。
This is a Polypodium niponicum, a Japanese fern. Creepers were going over the edge of previous pot.  It was replanted to the larger flat pot.  Although it is　sensitive and fussy about the environment, I hope it will grow healthy.
 

秋の準備その1 Prepare for autumn #1.

水やり以外余りすることのない夏も終り、また園芸作業がしたくなる秋がきた。
The autumn when I long to do gardening came after the summer when there is nothing to do except watering ended.
伸び過ぎた枝を切り、花の終わった夏物をファームに下げて、日向に置けなかった鉢を日向に出し、外に置けなかった鉢を外に出し、家に入れられなかった鉢を家に入れ、夏にいじるとヤバイ鉢の世話をして、とやってもやっても終わらない。
Pruning too long branches, storing summer pots with finished flowers, moving pots protected from summer heat to sunny place, moving indoor pots to outdoor, moving outdoor pots to indoor, taking care of pots that are fragile during hot season, I cannot finish chores.
そして繁殖もしてしまうし、鉢を買うつもりが、ついつい新しい植物も買ってしまう (^^ゞ のでますます終わらない。
しかし、少々お化粧直しした植物たちを見ると、ニヤニヤしてしまう。
And, propagating, and not being able to stop buying new plants having intended to to buy pots only, the work won't possibly end.
But, when I look at plants  done re-make up, I cannot stop grinning.

先ずはシダから…
Starting from ferns,
何年もアオネカヅラがいまいちのままだったが、今年は随分育ちがいい。休眠する筈の夏に育っている。高植えにしたのが良かったか、肥料が良かったか、訳はわからない。 スプリンクラー付の育成棚から、室内に 引っ張り出してきた。

Since a few years ago, this Polypodium niponicum was not doing good, but this year it grows really well.  During summer when it is supposed to hibernate it has been growing.  Because I raised the soil base, or fertilizing, the reason is unknown.  It was moved from a farming shelf with sprinkler to our living room.   

株分けしたこちらも順調そうだ。同じ育成棚から、明るい日陰に移してみた。
This one propagation looks fine.  It was moved from the same shelf to light shaded area.

夏の間は元気のなかった白虎オオウラボシ(というらしい・・・)だが、いつの間にかいい葉っぱが出ている。自然に生えてきたフツーのシダはどうするかなぁ？
This is Neolepisorus truncatus Ching et P. S. Wang, I guess, that was not doing well during summer, but I was surprised to see some good leaves were there.  I cannot decide what to do about the other regular ferns.
これも玄関の半日影に置いてみる。
This one, I put in front of our entrance door.

これは、新顔。駒ヶ根の山野草店で買ってきた獅子葉コタニワタリ。家内にレタスと呼ばれていた。
This is new to us.  Phyllitis scolopendrium that I bought at the wild plants shop at Komagane city when we traveled to there a few weeks ago.  My wife calls it as a lettuce.
