デマだと思った I thought it a groundless rumor.

ネットに良くあるデマだと思った。トクサが挿し木で増やせるというのだ。本当?あんなシダが挿し木で増やせるなんて誰が信じるか。まあしかしとにかく試してみた。5本の挿し枝(枝なのか?)を古い徳利に入れた水に浸けた。^^;
I thought it a groundless rumor as we often find in the net community. They say horsetail can be propagated by cuttings. Really? Who would believe such a fern can be propagated from cuttings. Anyway I tried. I put five cuttings in an old sake-bottle of water. ;-)

始めは、毎日点検した。点検の頻度は段々数日おきに減っていった。数日前までは何も変化がなかったと思う。しかし、今朝見ると、なんとなんと!! ホンマや!! 5本の内3本に根が出ている。
I checked every day at first. The frequency of checking has decreased to every several days. There were no change until a few days ago, I think.
However, this morning, OMG! it was true!! Three out of five cuttings started to grow roots in the water.

鉢(元は私の湯呑み)に植えてあげた。
I planted them in a pot that was once one of my tea cups.

どうなるかな。

Let's see how they will be.

これは根を付けて確か一月くらい前に植えたもの。鉢ごと水に漬けてある。若芽が伸びてきたようだ。土の表面に苔やグランドカバープランツを植えたが、まだ小さすぎて良い景色とはいえない。
This is one I planted horsetails with roots maybe a month ago. They are soaked in water altogether with a pot. It looks like they started to grow their young shoots. Even though I planted some moss and ground cover plants on the surface of the soil, they are too small to make a good scenery.

挿し木と言えば、これは私がやはり一月くらい前に剪定したレモンの枝だ。今日まで根が伸びているに気が付かなかった。ビックリ、ビックリ。
Talking about cuttings, this is a lemon plants I pruned also a month ago. I did not notice until today that it started to grow two roots. Surprising, surprising.

例によって、私が10日間留守の間に庭の植物たちはいつもより良く育っていた。はぁ。

As usual the plants in my garden look growing better while I was away for ten days. Sigh.

ファイアクラッカーは異常に育って花を咲かせている。春に植え替えしたからかな?

Fire cracker is unusually flourish this year. Is it because of replanting in the spring?

イタリアの巨大レモンは若い葉を伸ばし始めた。6月遅くまで芽を伸ばさないとはよっぽど暑い気候が好きと思われる。

The baby tree of Italian big lemon had started to grow young leaves. The tree looks to love warm weather since it started to grow in late June.

桔梗は満開。ただ、伸びすぎて自分では立っていられなくなっている。手作りのトレリスに縛り付けた。
A balloonflower is in full bloom although it grew too tall stand up by themselves that I tied them up to my hand made trellis.

日本園芸協会からのプレゼントで頂いた八重咲きオモダカは水の中から枝を伸ばしている。水槽の中に植えた１つも同じように水から空中に育っている。

The  leaves of threeleaf arrowhead, that was a gift from the Japan Gardening Society, are sticking out their stems from pond water. The one in my fish tank also grows out of water.

レックスベゴニアは大きな葉を広げ、花まで咲いた。

Rex begonia grew larger leaves and bear a flower.

ハートカズラは沢山の花を付けた。

String of hearts have many flowers.

彩々は最後の花を咲かせていた。
Hydrangea Saisai blooms the last flower.

リュウビンタイも異常に育っているる
 Marattiales also flourish unusually.

私が大好きなこの紫陽花も花を咲かせた。可憐だよね。
One of my most favorite hydrangea had flowers, too. Isn't it pretty.

これは植物ではなく、ツマグロヒョウモンの幼虫が蛹になっていた。母蝶たちは一生懸命卵を生んでいる。もうすぐ、スミレもビオラも季節が終わってしまうのにね。

This is not a plant but a larva of Indian Fritillary became a pupa. Mothers are still laying eggs vigorously although the season of violet and viola is almost over.

Good news and Bad news

いいニュースと悪いニュースがある。
先ず良いニュースから。以前旅行から持ち帰った例のレモンなのだが、また成長を始めた。ひと月前私が初めて外においた時に日焼けさせてしまっていたのだ。葉の半分は無くなってしまっていたが、今日新しい葉が出てきているのを発見した。

There are a good news and a bad news, today.
First the good news is that Lemon I brought back from my travel started to grow again.  I had it sun burnt about a month ago when I put it outside for the first time.  Halves of the leaves have gone, but today I found tiny new leaves came out.

続いて悪いニュース。 ４月に新芽を出したと言っていたBegonia masoniana のことだ。先ず、あの後少々水をやりすぎて大分弱らせてしまった。その後10日程家を留守にした。留守の間は自動スプリンクラーが水をやってくれるはずだった。しかし、家に帰って見つけたものは乾燥した土と葉っぱ。帰る前日の以上熱波が原因なのかそれともポットの置き場所が悪かったのか判ら無い。しかし、未だ諦めていない、毎日水をやっている。

Now, the bad news is about Begonia masoniana that showed new leaves in April.  First I had it too wet and it became weak.  After that I was out of house about ten days.  While I am not at home, automatic sprinkler was supposed to keep it moist.  However, what I found when I came home is dried soil and leaves.  I don't know if it was because of unusual heat waves that attacked the area one day before, or my placement of the pot on the shelf was not good.  Still I have not given up and keep on watering it every day.
