登録外　unregistered

巻柏愛好家は銘鑑という物を古くから作ってきたらしい。銘鑑とは相撲の番付のような表でその年の優秀な(?)巻柏が記されている。明治に遡っての日本巻柏連合会以前の銘鑑はこのサイトに掲載されている。

I heard funs of "Iwahiba", Japanese Selaginella, have been publishing directories of Iwahiba historically. Directories are listing most loved species in the year. Directories since 1980's are listed on this page.

昭和22年に日本巻柏連合会が結成されてからは，連合会が発行を続けている。銘鑑の中にはその年新しく品種として認定された物も掲載される。

これは平成24年度の銘鑑で、右の欄外に3種の新登録が示されている。

Since 1947 when "Japan Selaginella Association" was founded, the association has been publishing directories. In those directories, new species formally registered are included. This is the directory of 2012 and the three at the rightmost side are newly registered species.

熱心な愛好家は競って新種の作出に傾注し，現在までに通算200余種が登録されているそうだ。登録されるには大変な準備が必要だし，審査も厳しいらしい。だから，年に幾つかしか登録されない。その苦労に報いるため、その年は，登録者しか販売できないらしい。

Avid fans are competitively working hard to cultivate new species, and I heard more than two hundreds cultivars are registered by now. Enormous work is needed for registration, and judgement is rigorous. So, only a few are registered each year. To reward the effort, in the year of the registration only only the registerer have a right to sell the species.

ところで、本稿の本題は登録外だ。銘鑑に登録されているもの以外にもそれなりに地位の確立している品種が幾つもある。名前も付いているし，見てくれも良く，愛好家の間で名前が広まっている。どういう理由で登録外なのか，その辺りの事情は私には判らない。

登録外で私の持っている品種を紹介する。

By the way, the subject of this blog is "unregistered". Other than the ones registered, there are many species that has status among fans. They have names, looks good, famous among fans. I don't know why they are unregistered.

I would like to introduce ones that are unregistered among what I have.

珊瑚閣 Coral Parace

葉が立ち上がる品種の一つ。

One of the species that have rising leaves.

長寿 Longevity

葉の一部が枯れたようにチョコレート色になる。大きめの葉が巻いている。
Parts of leaves have color of chocolate like dead leaves. Larger leaves are curling.

中国之華 Chinese Flower

これも長寿と同じくチョコレートが交じる種類。葉は小さめだ。
This one also has chocolate leaves as same as Longevity. This has smaller leaves.

天女の舞 Dance of Nymph
これは今は斑が乗っている程度だが、紅葉が美しい筈。名前も綺麗。
This one does not have strong feature now except some white spots on leaves, but in autumn it is expected to have beautiful colored leaves. The name is attractive, too.

淡い葉色と巻いた葉が味わい深い。
Pale color and curling leaves are attractive.

鶴之舞　"Tsuru no mai"

まだ幼い苗だが，もう捩れて立ち上がる葉の特徴が現れている。鶴の舞とは，美しく相応しい名前だ。

This is still young, but it already shows the feature of "twist and rise up" leaves. "Tsuru no mai" meaning "Dance of Cranes" is a really beautiful name and appropriate for this species.

司金龍　"Tsukasa kinryu"

金龍という種類がある。葉が紐のような所謂一本葉だ。しかし，時々葉の先が幾つかにわかれて手のような形になることもある。ほとんどが手葉となるよう育成した品種が司金龍と呼ばれている。「司」は役人の職位とか役割とかいう意味と辞書にはあるが，この場合どういう意味で使われているのかは謎だ。

There is a species named "Kinryu" meaning a golden dragon. Leaves of Kinryu are like strings so called "one string leaf". But, sometimes there appear leaves of which ends are split into several branched and are like fingers of hands. The species that are cultivated to have almost all leaves be "hand leaves" is called "Tsukasa kinryu". According to a dictionary, "tsukasa" means a rank of public servant or role of a person, etc. It is still a question in what sense "tsukasa" is used in this case.

7/5からこの地方もいきなりの暑さに襲われている。梅雨も終わりかもしれない。

暑くて高湿度の日本の夏は水少なめで耐えてもらうしかない。頑張れ!!　といっても休眠するらしいから頑張らないのか?

Since July 5th, this area has been attacked by sudden heat wave. It looks like the rainy season may have ended.

Aoenium that were placed at the south side of the house are moved to shaded area. Sempervivum has been here already.

There is no other way than surviving without water during hot and humid Japanese summer. Hang in there!! But, since they become dormant there may be no need for hurray.
